Inside the Huddle
It’s been three straight losing seasons for the Cavs, but new coach Trey Kavanaugh has breathed new life into this program.
Despite their lack of experience, the Cavs hope to switch up their looks offensively and play solid defense after allowing more than 36 points per game in their worst defensive performance since the team’s inaugural 2009 season.
That unit will start the turnaround with the big boys, including stud linemen Rickey Weekes, Gavin Thomas and Tyrell Dawson.
Andreau Rastia returns as a starter at linebacker, but expect a big season from AJ Goodloe as well.
Jackson Cheek picked off three passes last year and is the career leader in interceptions for the Cavs.
The offense will look a little different this year with mostly new skill guys.
Evan Bernard takes over at quarterback with Jack Rhinehart as the primary ball carrier. Look out for Myles Teasley, an athlete who can throw, catch and run the ball.
Jay Rector, Seth Eighmy and AJ Colombo will get a lot of looks at receiver while converted lineman Trevor Tate takes over at tight end.
Myles Lopez is the best of the line, but the Cavs are big and tough up front.
This team will be competitive every night. However, in the Southern Carolinas, it’s probably at best a race for third behind state champs Catholic and Weddington. It’ll take some time, but this program is trending up.
