Kirkland Harris, Porter Ridge
Key stat: Averaged over eight yards per carry as a reserve last season.
Andrew Stark: The senior class last season was very good and led you guys to the regional finals. Now there are a lot of guys hungry to step in and make their name. That has to be exciting, right?
Kirkland Harris: Those were some pretty good seniors, and they definitely showed us how to do it and paved the road but we had a lot of young talent, too. We’ll be straight with what we have.
AS: Coach Hertz has said you’re going to be a really big part of the offense this season. How do you get yourself ready for that kind of roll, and especially the way he likes to run the football?
KH: I just have a love for the game. I’m always ready to go, but it helps with the teammates that I have. Knowing I have them backing me up, I feel like I can do anything.
AS: You guys play in a tough conference with Butler and Myers Park, but you almost beat Myers Park and aren’t backing down from any of those teams. What is your mindset heading into the season knowing it’s going to be tough again?
KH: It’s tough, but our coaches put us through a lot during the offseason and in our practices, so we’re ready.
