MONROE – Southern States in Monroe recently held a grand reopening to showcase its expanded product offering, including a new line of True Value products and power equipment rental for farm and home customers.
“Since opening this new store in 2014, we’ve gotten many requests from customers for things like equipment rental, hardware and services like our new pet-washing station,” store manager Jason Fasel said. “Adding services as well as the line of True Value products, power tools and equipment rental, are just a few ways we’re working to meet the requests and needs of our farm and home customers.”
The store has been rearranged with an updated layout that makes it easier and more convenient to find items when shopping and get to the pet-washing station.

Radio station holds food drive
MONROE – 99.1, The Fun One is partnering with the Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry to present the Fun One Food Drive from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 15.
Listeners and members of the Monroe community are invited to drop off non-perishable food items (canned fruits, vegetables and protein, as well as boxed food items) to be donated to the Union County Crisis Assistance Ministry Food Pantry.
“As we approach the holidays, we felt it important to find a way to give back to our neighbors in Monroe and Union County and have fun while doing it,” said John Griffin, president and on-air personality. “A live, on-air food drive seems like the perfect way to accomplish our goal and engage our listeners at the same time.”

NC IDEA awards grants to startups
DURHAM – NC IDEA has awarded $150,000 to 15 startups, including AuthorLoyalty of Waxhaw, in its third grant cycle of NC IDEA MICRO.
The program has awarded nearly $450,000 to 45 young companies across the state since spring 2018. Through project-based grants, the program awards funding up to $10,000 to young companies looking to advance their idea.
“We are excited to work closely with these young companies over the coming months, while they serve as examples for others who may be considering an entrepreneurial ambition of their own,” NC IDEA CEO Thom Ruhe said.
Recipients were chosen after a three-month competitive application and selection process that drew 156 applications.
