INDIAN TRAIL – Common Heart is seeking donations to provide 1,100 frozen turkeys with all the fixings to 1,100 local families in need so they can prepare their own Thanksgiving feasts.
The13th annual Great Turkey Countdown will benefit families throughout Union County, Matthews and Mint Hill.
Residents can drop off frozen turkeys and other related nonperishables, such as canned fruits and vegetables, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce and macaroni and cheese, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 9 at the nonprofit’s office, 116 Business Park Drive, Suite A.
Cash donations are also being accepted. Every $30 raised buys a turkey and the fixings. Donate online by visiting http://Turkeys.CommonHeart.org or mail a check (payable to Common Heart) to PO Box 2761, Indian Trail, NC 28079. Write “Turkeys” in the memo line.
More than 450 volunteers will be needed at the Common Cupboard food pantry, on Nov. 23 to load vehicles and deliver the 1,100 Thanksgiving dinner baskets. Volunteers can sign up online at http://Turkeys.CommonHeart.org.
“When we started this Thanksgiving program 12 years ago, we gave away just over 100 Thanksgiving baskets,” Executive Director Keith Adams said. “The effort – thanks to the community’s generosity – has grown steadily since then and this year we hope we can serve 1,100 families.”
