NEW SALEM – The intersection of New Salem and East Lawyers roads will be converted to an all-way stop next week to improve safety, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The intersection currently requires traffic on East Lawyers Road to stop, but traffic on New Salem Road does not have to stop.
The switch will take place May 30, weather permitting. The project includes installing stop signs and new pavement markings on both sides of New Salem Road, in addition to a flashing “stop ahead” warning sign on southbound New Salem Road to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.
NCDOT has placed electronic message boards on both sides of New Salem Road approaching the intersection to advise motorists about the change.
