MONROE – Character.org will honor Union Academy Headmaster Ann Walters with the 2019 Workplace Game Changer Award on Oct. 24 in Washington, D.C.
Walters leads a team of more than 300 administrators, teachers and staff in educating over 1,900 K-12 students.
Since becoming headmaster of Union Academy in 2013, the charter school has earned recognition as a North Carolina School of Character and a National School of Character. Union Academy earned a North Carolina Performance Grade of A for the 2017-18 school year.
In 2018, Walters and her team, through strong partnerships, completed a three-year, $20 million construction project to reach the goal of having all K-12 students on one campus.
Walters, who graduated from Monroe High School, has worked as a coach, teacher and school administrator for nearly 25 years.
