Billy Brewer and Ty Foley, Charlotte Catholic
Key stat: Linebackers Billy Brewer (6.6 tackles per game) and Ty Foley (7.7) wreak havoc on opposing ball carries.
Andrew Stark: You guys are the two-time defending state champs, yet people are probably thinking this is the year to pounce on Catholic due to all you lost. That has to get old a little, right?
Billy Brewer: We obviously lost a lot of talent, but we have a lot of guys coming back and everyone is going to be making plays. The young guys will have to play better, but we have plenty of talent. If we get the right schemes and stuff, we’ll be fine.
AS: Ty, same thing. There’s a lot of talent in your locker room.
Ty Foley: We have players that have been starting for three and even four years, so we know we have guys who are going to come out and make plays for us. That’s the bottom line. We definitely have the talent to make a run at a state championship, but we need the guys who haven’t been there the whole time to fit in.
AS: Coach Brodowicz’s record speaks for itself here, but what is it about his coaching style that leads to such consistency?
BB: He’s been coaching for long enough where he knows what to tell us and where we need to be. He just knows how to win, I guess is what it is.
TF: He does a really good job of simpling it down for us so that we know when we’re out there we can look at our keys and plays. We don’t have to think, we just make our moves and go.
BB: He instills to never think, just play. We know what to do so we’re not out there having to think about it, we just know where to be.
