INDIAN TRAIL – Porter Ridge ended its unbeaten streak at 6-0 after falling to Myers Park 8-1 on Sept. 6, but the Pirates have bounced back in a big way.
Myers Park won the NCHSAA championship with an unbeaten 2016 and suffered its only loss of the season 5-3 to Green Hope in the final of last year’s state tournament. And the Mustangs are mostly intact from last year and a top team in the nation.
The Pirates got right back to their dominance outside of Myers Park and throttled Hickory Ridge 8-1 on Sept. 11.
Vivian Vassilski, Victoria Riabtseva, Stacy Vassilski, Francesca Ivanocic Lamarra and Kimberly Tran won their singles matches.
Vivian Vassilski and Riabtseva, Stacy Vassilski and Lamarra and Tran and Jamie Marano swept the doubles action.
The following day, the Pirates blanked Rocky River, 9-0.
Vivian Vassilski, Riabtseva, Stacy Vassilski, Lamarra, Tran and Marano won in singles.
Junior Emajean Thomas and sophomore Elizabett Sokolyuk won on Court 1; sophomore Rosalea Francis and junior Monica Stewart won on Court 2; and sophomore Cynthia Tran and freshman Aaralyn Talford rounded out the win on Court 3.
