INDIAN TRAIL – North Carolina State wrestler Michael Macchiavello (Sun Valley High) is ranked No. 3 nationally at 197 in the first national rankings of the year.
Macchiavello is currently 13-1 on the year for the No. 6 ranked Wolfpack.
As a junior last season, Macchiavello was an NCAA Qualifier at 184 pounds while earning All-ACC honors after a second-place finish. He went 26-8 on the season, including 10-3 in duals. But one loss was when he wrestled up at 197 pounds at North Carolina. He was 4-0 in ACC duals at 184 pounds and was 5-6 versus ranked foes on the season after going 0-10 in his first two seasons.
North Carolina State was represented in every weight class in the first NCAA coaches’ panel rankings as the Wolfpack had 10 wrestlers ranked in their respective weight class among the top-33 nationally. Highlighting the rankings, five Wolfpack grapplers are listed in the top-three in their weight classes, including Macchiavello.
