CHARLOTTE – The Weddington boys cross country team put three runners in the top seven and had all five scoring runners within the top 31 at the NCHSAA 3A Midwestern Regional, which concluded Oct. 28 at McAlpine Park.
The Warrior were led by juniors Kyle Durham, Jackson O’Hara and Will Mazur, who finished in spots 5-7.
Durham ran 16:01 to lead the way and placed fifth, O’Hara was sixth and (16:07) and Mazur placed seventh (16:09).
Junior Stephen Larson (16:27, 14th) and sophomore Jake Toomey (16:44, 21st) rounded out the scoring, but the Warriors also got top 40 runs from freshmen Krystopher Durham (17:12, 37th) and Carson Mann (17:21, 40th).
Cuthbertson placed third in the region and placed seven runners within the top 40 in the region.
The Cavs were led by Andrew Kiss (16:22, 12th), but got scoring runs from Davis Seik (16:24, 13th), Walker Lezotte (16:41, 20th) and freshmen Shaun Raughley (17:02, 25th) and Evan Zotti (17:03, 26th).
Daniel Chavez (17:08, 28th) and freshman William Walsh (17:11, 36th) also had top 40 performances.
Piedmont’s John Ciprich placed ninth overall with a time of 16:16 and teammates Chandler Jones was 22nd overall (16:49), Lucas Paschal placed 32nd (17:10) and Nicholas Mullis finished 39th (17:18).
Sun Valley’s Lukis Padu (17:23, 41st) and Parkwood freshman Ethan Bradley (17:39, 47th) turned in top 50 runs.
Overall, Weddington placed second behind Mount Tabor (48 points) with 53 and was followed by county schools Cuthbertson (96, third), Piedmont (174, sixth), Parkwood (358, 12th) and Sun Valley (433, 16th).
The Marvin Ridge boys placed sixth in the NCHSAA 3A Western Regional, while the Metrolina Christian boys placed ninth at the NCISAA 3A meet, which was held Oct. 27 at the WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary.
The Warriors scoring runners were Caleb Kirchhoff (17:30, 37th), Jackson Brinkley (17:40, 41st), Camden Johnson (18:45, 65th), Jon Wooten (18:53, 69th) and Jonathan Street (19:12, 80th).
