The Marvin Ridge defense appeared to be in midseason form during its 38-7 win over East Mecklenburg in Week 1. The Mavs allowed minus-16 yards rushing and just 56 yards through the air, 43 of which came on the game’s final drive.
Mavs defensive end Adam Smits had seven tackles (four for loss), a sack and a forced fumble, while fellow defensive lineman Nico Smith managed a pair of sacks and a tackle for loss.
Offensively, the Mavs had four scoring drives, three of which were led by freshman quarterback Aaron Pilkington. Turner Schwartz led the other, which was a 15-play, 10-minute drive that chewed up nearly the entire third quarter.
“Both (quarterbacks) moved the ball pretty effectively,” coach Scott Chadwick said.
Chadwick said he’ll enter this week’s game against Charlotte Ardrey Kell with a similar quarterback rotation.
