For just the second time in nine tries, Forest Hills opened its season with a 32-26 win over rival Anson.
“Obviously, it’s good to get that first win out of the way,” said Forest Hills coach John Lowery. “Anson’s been a nemesis for us for a while, and they’ve got good athletes. We made a lot of mistakes, but that’s to be expected during the first game. Hopefully, we can cut down on some of those (miscues) this week (against Weddington).”
Lowery commended defensive end Chris Glidewell (eight tackles) and linebacker Tyriq Laney (10 tackles) for their efforts.
Offensively, Lowery said sophomore running back C.J. Carelock had a solid varsity debut, as the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder ran for more than 130 yards and a pair of scores.
