The Union Academy Cardinals were dealt a serious blow last week when senior running back Rasheed Rushing went down with a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of their 47-10 loss to Arden Christ School.
Rushing opened the season with five touchdowns and 189 yards on the ground and was off to another good night in Week 2 against Christ School (three carries, 58 yards) before the injury.
Robert Rushing, Union Academy’s coach and Rasheed’s father, said Union Academy running backs Antonio James and Seth Joyner did a solid job in relief. Joyner totaled 120 yards on 13 carries, while Joyner gained 62 on five attempts.
“We have two running backs that are going to fill his place until he gets back,” Rushing said.
This week the Cardinals travel to Kernersville to face Bishop McGuinness.
