Providence Day hosts hoops clinic
On Oct. 1, area basketball coaches will convene for the second annual Providence Day Basketball Coaches Clinic. The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school’s Mosack Athletic Center in south Charlotte.
Guest speakers include University of North Carolina women’s coach Sylvia Hatchell, Charlotte Bobcats assistant coach Stephen Silas and Charlotte 49ers men’s coach Alan Major.
Pre-registration closes Sept. 27. The cost is $50 for the first coach and $40 for each additional coach from the same staff. The registration fee on the day of the clinic is $60 for the first coach and $50 for each additional coach from the same staff.

Serve for the Cure 2011
On Sept. 24, Charlotte Latin will host the 10th annual Serve for the Cure volleyball tournament.
Teams from throughout the area, including Weddington High, will play volleyball all day to raise funds for Susan G. Komen-Charlotte.
Founded by Charlotte Latin coach Suzie Pignetti, a cancer survivor herself, Serve for the Cure has grown to be the largest teen-sponsored event in the area for Komen. Last year, the event raised more than $42,000.

P.A.L. golf tournament
Charlotte Mecklenburg’s Police Activities League will be holding its inaugural Chief’s Challenge Charity Golf Classic from Sept. 26-27 at The Palisades Golf & Country Club.
The event will begin with the Chief’s Challenge Kick-off and Pairings Reception on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Executive Park Hotel in uptown Charlotte. The golf tournament begins Sept. 27 at 9 a.m., following a 7:45 a.m. breakfast.
