Marvin Ridge High School distance runner Chris Colo finished his career on a high note at last weekend’s Class 3A track and field championships.
Colo finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 9 minutes, 31.44 seconds. He added a third-place finish in the 1,600 (4:25.38) and teamed with Michael Colven, Alec Lane and Drew Buckley to take third in the 4×800 relay (7:58.16).
Colven joined Chris Van Gurp, Logan Jackson and Will Cottrell on the Mavs’ third-place 4×400 team (3:26.94). Teammate Ronny Franklin also medaled, claiming third in the pole vault (13 feet, 6 inches). The Maverick boys (36 points) finished third, while Weddington (14) tied for 21st.
In the girls competition, Weddington’s Chelsea Matson placed second in the 3,200 (11:34.69) and combined with Carly Griffith, Shannon Martin and Mallary Price to finish second in the 4×800 (9:37.14). The Marvin Ridge 4×400 relay team of Brittany Fritz, Taylor Dove, Anna Lipocky and Taylor Berry finished third (4:07.61).
The Warrior girls (18 points) finished tied for 13th, while Marvin Ridge (17) was 15th.
