One of the best-kept secrets in the North Carolina high school track and field ranks apparently resides at Indian Trail’s tiny Metrolina Christian Academy.
According to the website athletic.net, which lists top performances in the Tar Heel State and throughout the nation, Metrolina Christian sophomore Kyle Shackleford has posted North Carolina’s best shot put effort.
During a March 25 meet at Charlotte Christian School, according to the website, Shackleford finished first with a career-best put of 57 feet, 1 inch. The performance is more than 1 ½ feet better than the next-best competitor, South Brunswick’s Ryan Minor (55-6).
Parkwood’s Matthew Brantley currently has the eighth-best shot put performance (51-2.5).
