Charlotte 49ers officials formally announced they are seeking a head football coach and posted the position announcement on both the university and NCAA websites.
The 49ers will begin playing football for the first time in school history in the fall of 2013. The school plans to hire the head football coach this spring. The 49ers also will break ground on a football stadium this spring.
The 49ers, who already have scheduled several games for its inaugural season, will host their first game on Aug. 31, 2013, against Campbell.
“The buzz surrounding the 49ers football program continues to grow,” 49ers athletics director Judy Rose said in a prepared statement. “Each week, we take steps closer to 2013, and with each step comes another level of excitement. The hiring of the head coach is obviously one of the biggest steps in unveiling our program, and we are thrilled to officially move the process forward. From our fans’ perspective – and from ours – each new announcement makes 49ers Football 2013 more real, more tangible. And each announcement brings it that much closer.”
In building the upstart program, the 49ers will bring in a class of redshirts for 2012-13 as well as a second recruiting class for 2013-14.
Football Seat Licenses already are on sale to offer fans the right to purchase season tickets. To purchase FSLs, which are the only way to guarantee seats to 49ers games, call the athletic ticket office at 704-687-4949, or visit www.charlotte49ers.com or charlotte49erfootball.com.
