Former Marvin Ridge standout football player Vinnie Sunseri participated in the 2011 Under Armor All-American game on Jan. 5 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Sunseri started at linebacker and logged five tackles in the national all-star game aired on ESPN2.
The son of former Carolina Panthers assistant coach Sal Sunseri, Vinnie Sunseri left Union County last January for Tuscaloosa, Alabama, after his father became an assistant coach for the University of Alabama the previous year. Sunseri starred at Northridge High School, earning All-State honors and being named the 2010 Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A Lineman of the Year.
Sunseri has made a commitment to play for Alabama. His father, however, made news this week after interviewing for the vacant head-coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh, where his oldest son, Tino, started at quarterback this fall. Tino Sunseri played at Weddington High before transferring to a private school in Pennsylvania in 2006. He will be a junior next season.
