WAXHAW – The American Planning Association recognized the Town of Waxhaw with the 2018 Great Places Award.
The APA recognizes Great Places in North Carolina in various categories. Waxhaw was recognized for the Great Main Street category for its downtown businesses, events and amenities.
Waxhaw’s downtown area was recognized for the historic buildings and form-code that ensures further development maintains the town’s historic elements. The award also recognized the town’s pedestrian and bicycle improvement project.
“The small business owners who bring life and vibrancy to downtown, the volunteers with the Town of Waxhaw Main Street Program and the residents who help us celebrate the history and character of Waxhaw are all part of this,” Downtown Development Manager Curt White said. “The Town of Waxhaw is proud to support our thriving downtown’s small businesses, and to continue to implement plans that preserve the historic context that helps underpin their success.”
