WAXHAW – A Charlotte-based company specializing in planning and design will spearhead Waxhaw’s new Park Master Plan.
Town commissioners voted March 27 to hire Benesch for $65,000. The firm, which was the lowest of three total bids, will spend the next eight months updating the town’s plan from 2012.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Dena Sabinske, Benesch has completed numerous system-wide strategic master plans in the Carolinas; designed hundreds of regional, community and neighborhood parks, as well as some of the region’s sports fields; and planned and designed over 200 miles of greenway trails. It also has a successful track record of pursuing grant funding.
“They know how to write the master plan to fit the needs of those grants and they also are really good about our national standards and state standards, so we already have that foundation when we go out for those accreditations,” Sabinske said.
Waxhaw needs an updated park plan to go for future grants, such as the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant – a 50-percent matching grant up to $500,000. Applications are due in May 2019.
