WAXHAW – Carolinas Dental Center will give free cleanings, extractions or fillings to the first 150 people who sign up at each of their locations Dec. 1 for their Dentistry from the Heart event.
The practices – in Waxhaw at 2514 Cuthbertson Road and Matthews at 428 Sam Newell Road – will begin serving patients at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis until 5 p.m. or when all 150 patients have seen a doctor or received their service of choice.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., when each person will be assigned a number. Patients may be waiting outside of the office due to space constraints so those attending the event are asked to dress warm and bring chairs and anything else they might need while waiting.
Each person can choose between a cleaning, extraction or filling, however fillings are limited to the first 25 patients who need them due to time constraints.
“If they know what they want, it’s an easy thing; if they don’t know we will have doctors on site to help determine what they need,” Dr. Christopher Phelps said.
This will be the first year Carolinas Dental Center has participated in the Dentistry from the Heart program. The group plans to make it an annual occurrence.
“It’s something we have been thinking about and have wanted to do,” Phelps said. “My hope is that we serve around 300 people.”
Phelps learned about the program from the founder, Vincent Monticciolo, while at a conference a few years ago and knew he wanted to hold the event in his office. This will be the first event to be held in a dentist’s office with two locations.
All of the personnel working during Dentistry from the Heart are volunteers, and Carolinas Dental Center’s local suppliers have donated most of the supplies.
“We partnered up with a local dental company who sells dental instruments internationally. They agreed to donate some of the additional tools we need,” Phelps said.
