Local girl honored by Assistance League

INDIAN TRAIL – Sarah Hudson of Indian Trail was recognized recently as the Assistance League’s Teen Volunteer of the Year.

Hudson participated in Teen Court in Mecklenburg County for the past two years. The alternative justice system serves youth offenders ages 10 to 15. Through the court, Hudson gave 127 hours of service.

As a teen attorney in the program, Hudson is noted for her caring approach to defendants and their families. “Sarah connects well with the defendants and equally well with their parents, questioning them, explaining procedures, and reassuring them appropriately,” said Jane Lochman, an Assistance League member, in a news release.

Hudson said her efforts have been well worth it.

“Not only are you serving in the community, but also you are helping a young boy or girl who truly needs your support,” she said in the release. “They need someone who cares about them and is willing to advise them so that they can move on to a better life – so that they learn not to do drugs, drink underage, or steal and to stop now before then end up in juvi or adult prison.”
