MONROE – Best Buy announced plans March 29 to close 42 U.S. stores, including the one at 3151 W. Highway 74 in Monroe.
The only other store closing in North Carolina is in Rocky Mount.
“This was not an easy decision to make,” the company said in a news release. “We chose stores carefully and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business.”
The news release said the company will work with the employees to find other positions with Best Buy, but if they don’t find a new position, or choose to not work at a different location, a transition including severance package will be available to them.
The company expects most of the stores to permanently close by May 12, with three additional stores in the country closing later this summer.
