Incoming kindergarten students will have a chance next fall to learn a new language at Sun Valley Elementary.
The school plans to launch a Spanish Language Immersion Program, where the language is not taught as a subject. Instead, lessons are taught in Spanish, with both a teacher and teacher assistant provided, through the Visiting International Faculty program. Each are native Spanish speakers from a Spanish-speaking country. Students will be taught in the same courses as other kindergarten classes, except in Spanish. The school is one of three in Union County that will host the program next year, with one kindergarten class scheduled to be included. Sun Valley officials estimate a total of 24 students will participate in the program.
