Instead of tossing an old cell phone in the trash, United Family Services asks residents to donate it. The Monroe based group collects used phones, to either recycle them or give to families so they can call 911 in an emergency.
“Donating a used, unwanted cell phone allows all community members to contribute to an important cause and protect our environment,” Pam Caskey, Region Director of United Family Services, said. “There are hundreds or even thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community but have the potential to make a tremendous difference in the life of a child, adult and families impacted by sexual assault and child abuse.”
Any funds collected from the recycling program will be used for counseling and advocacy services for victims of domestic abuse.
Anyone wanting to donate their old phone can do so at the United Family Services office, 604 Lancaster Avenue or at three other locations:
• Stallings Police Department, 315 Stallings Road, Stallings
• Waxhaw Police Department, 703 E. West South Main St., Waxhaw
• Weddington Town Hall, 1924 Weddington Road, Weddington
United Family Services asks that all SIM cards are removed and personal information cleared out before anyone donates a phone. For more information, call 704-226-1352.
