Residents needing help to pay for their heating bills can now apply with the Union County Department of Social Services. The department recently received more funding for its energy assistance programs and will take applications Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
Applications can be picked up at the department office, 1212 W. Roosevelt Blvd in Monroe anytime until either March 31 or until the funding is exhausted.
In order to qualify for assistance, a resident needs to show proof of income, their most recent power bill and names, social security numbers, dates of birth and residency information for all members of the household. In addition, the person must be able to provide his or her checking or savings account information.
If a person is deemed eligible, a one-time payment will be sent to the utility provider, to be credited to the heating account.
