Union County’s Department of Social Services will help taxpayers this year filing their federal and state income tax returns. The department is taking appointments now through their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free tax prep services to anyone with a gross income of $50,000 or less.
All volunteers have been certified through the Internal Revenue Service and have had training and testing. Social Services electronically files each tax return, and income refunds are usually direct deposited in the taxpayer’s banking institution within 10 days.
This year’s volunteers are accounting and finance majors with Wingate University, as well as community volunteers with accounting and finance backgrounds. To schedule an appointment, residents can call 704-296-4312.
