The town of Waxhaw won an award Thursday, Jan. 26 for the way it organized the downtown branding process. Town officials accepted the plaque at the state’s annual Small Town Main Street Awards ceremony, held this year in Clayton, North Carolina.
Waxhaw won the award for how the town operated its branding charrette, Sept. 22 through 25, 2010.
The purpose of the charrette was to work toward the creation of a marketing logo for the downtown area. More than 60 people, including 10 youth, were involved in the roundtable discussions over the marketing logo. State officials estimate that the partnership, including community volunteers, saved the town $14,000.
