Monroe organization A Few Good Men named Marshville Mayor Frank Deese as its Citizen of the Year for 2011.
“Each year we honor a person in the community that has made a difference in the lives of others through an organization, church or individual effort,” organization president Robert Heath said in a press release.
“Mayor Deese is the first African American to be elected as Mayor in Union County,” Heath said. “ Also, he is the only Mayor in Marshville elected four consecutive terms. He is very visible in the community and accessible to the people of Marshville.”
Deese serves as the board chair for the Monroe/Union County Community Development Corporation and a member of the Board of North Carolina Initiative. Deese has also served as a past board member of United Way and the YMCA.
A Few Good Men will hold its Citizen of the Year Banquet at Wingate University’s Laverne Center March 31.
