The human body is meant to move. Every joint, muscle fiber, tendon, and ligament is created for this purpose. Our nervous system, endocrine, lymphatics and cardiovasular systems are all dependent on our bodies being in tip-top shape. You have control of your daily routine and by adding light aerobic activity and weight bearing exercise you can dramatically decrease the risks for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many other life threatening illnesses.
By including exercise into your lifestyle you also increase your quality of life. It is proven that aerobic activity and weight bearing activity increase oxygenated rich blood to our extremities. In addition to increasing short-term blood to your brain, regular exercise can help to improve and protect the higher functions of the brain such as memory, task coordination, scheduling, and planning.
Exercise is also known for its benefit of mental fitness. Endorphines are released during exercise that combat stress, anxiety, and depression. Exercising can improve the way you perceive your physical condition, athletic abilities, and body image. Enhanced self-esteem is another benefit.
These are only a few of the many reasons to stay active and begin a regular exercise program. If everyone would become more proactive about their health there would be less sickness, less missed work days, and more productivity. Remember, we are also setting an example for our children, and we want to give them the best start in life by encouraging daily physical fitness.
