Each year, Monroe Crossing Mall hosts a two week art exhibit in the spring called Sharing our Hearts. The art work is created by special needs children.
“After speaking with Tracy Price about creating a mural on one of our walls in the mall, she came up with the idea to highlight some of the art work from the exhibit,” Monroe Crossing Marketing Director Sarah Enten said. The art work displayed in the mural is a collaboration of the art work created by special needs children from Addie Sykes’ class at Piedmont High School.
On a Saturday afternoon, 25 Piedmont High School National Art honor students packed up their paint brushes and got to work on the large 45 foot long wall across from Xtreme Play. Students spent the night in the mall creating the masterpiece and playing games to keep the creative juices flowing.
“The artwork not only expresses a great talent in our community but also brings awareness that we are not all the same. We should strive to be like these students and express ourselves in a positive light to others,” Enten said.
