Union County recently approved a contract with SolTherm Energy, LLC that will supply hot water to the Union County Jail. The contract allows the county to install thermal water heating at the facility with no up-front costs.
Requests were made earlier this year that the county obtain a system that would provide 25 percent of the Jail’s current hot water necessities rather than 100 percent, due to the County’s intent to construct a new minimum/medium security facility in the near future. Because the existing facility will be converted to a maximum security facility, the need for hot water will decrease.
County commissioners approved the contract during their Monday, Dec. 19 meeting. The contract had to be approved by Dec. 31 so that the vendor could receive tax credits amounting to 65 percent of the total project cost. The project will allow the county to save $85,375 over a 15-year period.
