Waxhaw resident Jamie Ricketts has been named the Monroe Civitan Club’s Special Citizen of the Year . Ricketts is a student in compensatory education classes at South Piedmont Community College’s Old Charlotte Highway Campus. The award is given to people who have contributed to the community through volunteer efforts, involvement in local activities and outstanding educational and/or vocational achievement.
Ricketts is a founding member of the Comp Ed Club at SPCC and has served as its treasurer. She also participates in many of the club’s community service projects, fund-raising events and recreational activities. She also took several human resources development classes at SPCC to improve her computer and communication skills. Outside of school, Ricketts has worked at Target for four years and participates in Special Olympics events year round. She competes in track, bowling, soccer, basketball, swimming and softball.
