Burned body, car found on Purser Rushing Road
One person is dead after a car exploded on Purser Rushing Road Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Firefighters responded to a call just after 10 p.m., after nearby residents reported a fire and what sounded like an explosion. The vehicle at the home had burst into flames, setting the house on fire as well. Firefighters found a badly burned body within the vehicle.
“Our obvious priority at this time is to identify the victim in this incident and determine how he died,” Chief Deputy Ben Bailey said, adding that investigators have made progress toward a positive identification but are awaiting confirmation from the Medical Examiner.
Bailey also would not speculate if foul play was involved in the death. “At this time, we aren’t dismissing any possibility, and will incorporate developments as they become available from the Medical
Examiner and the Fire Marshal’s Office into the course of the investigation,” Bailey said.
Sheriff’s Office investigators are conducting additional forensic examinations on the vehicle, working with the Fire Marshal’s office.
