When doors open on Black Friday, the city of Monroe has a list of gifts they want people to hunt for. The city is holding a “Winter Wonderland” scavenger hunt, running from Friday, Nov. 25 to Dec. 14.
“The purpose is to attract more shoppers to downtown businesses and in doing so educate consumers to shop locally,” Assistant City Manager Brian Borne said.
All the stores in downtown Monroe contributed items to be displayed in a vacant storefront. Residents can pick up a shopping list and then go into all the different stores, locating the items and writing down the prices. They turn the lists in to City Hall or the Downtown Monroe office. Each list that has the correct retail cost of each item and correct total will be entered into a drawing. The winner walks away with everything set up in the window.
