The Union County Community Arts Council held their annual Doug Helms Memorial Art Show Thursday, Dec. 8 in Monroe. More than 30 artists submitted work judged by Charlotte native Dillon Chorneau. Union County native Andy Smith won Best in Show for his raku pottery, while Sylvia Coppola won the Potter’s House award. Other award winners included Deborah Barton, Kathy Rorie, Laurie Sullivan, Betty Hendrix, Michael Miotke, Donald Cherry, Jewell Baldwin, John Morgan, Rodney Singleton and Douglas Wighton.
The Doug Helms Memorial Art Show is dedicated to the memory of Doug Helms, a Union County potter and teacher. The exhibit is open in the council gallery at 120 N. Main Street in Monroe. (Photos courtesy of Barbara Faulk)
