MOORESVILLE – The man accused of shooting two Waxhaw men on May 7 at the Mooresville Dragway is behind bars after officials say he turned himself in to Charlotte police.
Quentin Odell Mathis turned himself in to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Wednesday, May 18.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers took Mathis to the Rowan County line, where they turned him over to deputies. The speedway is located in Rowan County. They booked Mathis into the Rowan County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. His bond was set at $1 million.
Investigators say Mathis shot Courtney S. Davis and Edward L. Stewart, both of Waxhaw, near the bathroom at the dragstrip during the Spring Fling Bike Fest. The two men were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A rap video featuring Mathis as Sosa Da King, uploaded to YouTube.com last week, claimed that he was actually the victim in the case. Rowan officials have said the 28-year-old lived on Selma Drive in Mooresville.
