The latest business to move into Monroe will open its doors May 16, as the Latino Community Credit Union moves into its new building at 1951 Dickertson Boulevard. Monroe Mayor Bobby Kilgore will be on hand at 11 a.m to speak as part of the grand opening, along with Rev. Monsignor Mauricio West.
Data taken from the 2010 Census shows Union and neighboring Mecklenburg County have the largest Hispanic population in the state, with an estimated 132,911 Latino residents. The number is a 153 percent increase since the last Census in 2000.
“Even though we are having a great impact on the lives of the underserved in the Charlotte region, there are still many more families that need our services,” Board chair Edgardo Colon said. “Our goal is to help as many families as possible to integrate into the U.S. financial system and build wealth for themselves, their families and their communities.”
