Union County bicycle riders are being challenged to take part in the annual Tour de Cure, a fundraising race to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The event, which kicks off May 7, will start at Little Mountain Reunion Park in South Carolina, offering the more experienced riders a 100-mile trip, one of four routes available for groups or individuals to take. Funds are generated through registration fees and any pledges collected by the cyclists.
“Many people will participate in the Tour de Cure for the stimulating competition, camaraderie and physical cycling challenge. But the real reward comes in knowing that every mile they ride and every dollar they raise brings us that much closer to stopping this disease that affects nearly 1 million people in North and South Carolina,” said Dianne Roth, executive director of the American Diabetes Association/Central Carolinas. “With diabetes growing at near-epidemic proportions, the need for funds has never been so great.”
