Less than two years after first being proposed, a project to widen Old Monroe Road is now on the short list for funding. State officials have signed off on the idea, which is scheduled to start construction in 2017.
“With our new prioritization process, we are classifying projects in three categories,” Department of Transportation District 10 engineer Barry Moose said, adding those categories included mobilization, safety and infrastructure health.
Projects are then ranked in three tiers, statewide, regional and local, based on where they have the most impact. When all the data was collected, the Monroe Road project came in as one of the top two local projects in the state, with the numbers showing it would help alleviate traffic the most out of any project in the Union County area.
