Last month, Waxhaw Elementary School opened up a new type of classroom to students.
The school has dubbed the classroom filled with Dell Netbooks its “The Netbook Nook.” A Dell Netbook is a small portable laptop computer. The Nook contains 28 Netbooks that have wireless web access as well a data projector for teachers to use.
Using the data projector, teachers can offer class instruction as their students observe a technology-enhanced lesson on the white screen. The students can follow along with their teacher and have a hands-on experience using the individual Netbook assigned to them while visiting the Nook.
Each Waxhaw teacher has the opportunity to schedule a time for their classes to visit the Netbook Nook to do research, word process or enjoy educational activities.
Each Netbook is connected to a printer so students can print out any treasures they find on the Internet or print a final product created using PowerPoint, word processing, Timeliner or other software programs on their Netbook.
