A health-care bill co-sponsored by Union County lawmaker Craig Horn passed final reading in the N.C. Senate Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Horn and 20 other N.C. House members co-sponsored House Bill 2, dubbed the “North Carolina Healthcare Protection Act”. The bill turns several of the mandates from last year’s national health-care legislation into options, such as the mandate to enroll in health insurance. The bill also adds North Carolina’s name to a list of 28 other states currently challenging the constitutionality of national health-care reform legislature, called the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” which passed in 2010. After passing both chambers of the General Assembly, the bill goes to Gov. Perdue for her signature.
