Editor’s note: The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Matthews Police reported the following significant crimes – defined as any violation exceeding a misdemeanor – from Feb. 4 to 10. Additionally, Waxhaw police reported no significant crimes during that time period. The sheriff’s office reported there were no significant crimes in Hemby Bridge, Lake Park, Marvin, Unionville or Wesley Chapel.
Death investigation on Brief Road
Deputies were called out to the 160 block of Brief Road Feb. 6 after a local resident hadn’t been heard from in days. The 86-year-old resident was found dead of natural causes inside the home.
Thieves broke into a home on Mossy Cup Lane Feb. 4, running off with more than $500 worth of merchandise. A lock to a side door at the home was broken and thieves pried open the door to gain access. Once inside, they took a table saw, a circular saw, an air compressor and several hand tools. The homeowner had been gone for four days and returned Feb. 8 to find the door open and the property missing.
More mailbox vandalism
Another neighborhood in Indian Trail fell victim to mailbox vandals, with the attackers this time targeting the 8000 block of Indian Trail-Fairview Road. The latest incident happened Feb. 6, just after 11am, when two homeowners came back to find their mailboxes smashed in.
Someone broke into an Indian Trail man’s home apparently just to have a look around. The incident happened Feb. 7, just after 1pm, when the homeowner returned to find the master lock to a side door cut and the latch had been pried open. Nothing was damaged inside the building and no property was reported stolen.
Vandalism at McNeely Road home
A 43-year-old Mineral Springs man came home Feb. 5 to find someone had shattered a window at his house. Nothing else was damaged on the property and nothing was missing. Estimated damage was placed at $300.
Monroe mom charged with DWI had child inside vehicle
A Monroe woman arrested in Matthews Feb. 6 for driving while intoxicated had her child in the car with her, Matthews Police Officer Stason Tyrrell said.
Jamie Robinson, 30, of 126 Alton Ridge Drive was arrested in 11100 block of E. Independence Boulevard near the intersection of Matthews-Mint Hill Road at about 11:30 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor child abuse.
She was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail Feb. 7 on $4,000 bond, according to online records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Break-in at Weddington Matthews Road
Thieves jimmied a lock to get inside a home at the 6400 block of Weddington Matthews Road. The incident happened just after 5pm Feb. 8. Once inside, they left little behind. Brass candlesticks, cans of soda, adult magazines, a pallet jack, a disc mower, multiple sporting goods items and a boat cover were all taken from inside. q
