A group of students in Wingate University’s Masters in business administration program scored in the top 10, or 99th percentile, in a worldwide competition.
The competition known as the Capstone Simulation is a business strategy computer simulation that covers financing, product marketing and customer and employee satisfaction for a competitive business. Students on the winning Wingate team included Jennifer Parker Harden, Kevin Davis, John Zulueta and Oktawian Rybinski, all from the Charlotte area. They competed against 1,287 other teams.
“This score is absolutely brilliant and places our students head and shoulders above other MBA classes involved in this simulation,” Dr. Dennis Harlow, Wingate’s assistant professor of management, said in a news release.
During the semester-long competition, part of a course on strategy and policy, the students ran an actual business, making decisions on profit, stock price and production analysis. They learned how to work in teams and evaluated their colleagues’ effectiveness at the end of the competition.
“This competition integrates all of the functional courses, from finance and forecasting to marketing,” Harlow said.
“We were lucky to build a team that allowed each individual to play to his or her strengths,” Harden said in the release. “The Capstone process was more than just an MBA exercise. It was an all-encompassing learning experience.”
