International photographer and human rights activist David Johnson will speak at Sun Valley High Feb. 15, beginning at 6pm, as part of the county’s Global Fest that night. School officials encouraged community members to take part.
David, a former English teacher in Charlotte, NC, left teaching to do full time international work. He is the President and founder of Silent Images, a non profit organization committed to educating people and raising awareness to make a difference in the lives of those whose voices are silenced. With his work featured at Harvard and also recently seen on Oprah, David uses his photography to document persecuted and oppressed people in order to raise awareness and money for the indigenous people. He has documented the people of Darfur, Sudan, Burundi, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Haiti, and Peru.
