When Commissioner Kim Rogers says she is “gravely concerned,” that gets my attention. Commissioner Rogers represents me and everyone else in Union County. And we want her concerns fully addressed by the new chair. As Commissioner Rogers pointed out, the red book of rules and procedures is to be followed. According to those rules, all commissioners are able to add items with merit to the agenda. Then those items may later be dropped from the agenda by majority vote at the meeting, which is in public view… not screened ahead of time by the chair.
I don’t want the agenda items to be hidden from me, even if they are later voted off at the meeting. And I want to know why they’re voted off. That’s open and transparent government – by the rules. I have every expectation that current Chairman Jerry Simpson will decide to follow the rules and procedures to provide us with the open and transparent government that he has promised. We’ll be watching.
