Indian Trail’s Extreme Ice Center hopes to drum up support for a local Olympic hopeful with a spaghetti dinner Jan. 16.
Alex Aiken, a 20-year-old who trains at the center, is a finalist in the Junior Men’s category for the U.S. National Figure Skating Championship. One of 13 to compete for the title, Aiken needs funding to travel to the various events. The benefit dinner lasts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Extreme Ice Center. Tickets cost $10.
Aiken will give an exhibition performance by Aiken, and a public skating session will follow.
“This fundraiser helps the Carolinas Figure Skating Club support young skaters like Alex who have practiced for countless hours in hopes of someday achieving an Olympic medal. The Extreme Ice Center and Carolinas Figure Skating Club are very proud of Alex’s achievement, and we know he will excel at Nationals,” Danielle Logano, Extreme Ice Center figure skating director, said.
