With all the problems North Carolina faces, Tommy Tucker, District 35’s senator, lists as one of his top goals a requirement that voters present a government-issued photo ID to cast a ballot.
Since there is not a hint of any voter fraud in Union County, due in great part to the dedicated volunteer poll workers and the hardworking officials at our Board of Elections, Mr. Tucker’s top goal as senator, in reality, has to be to make it as difficult as possible for the people of Union County to vote.
It has been demonstrated time and again that voter IDs discourage the elderly, the young and minorities from voting. I always believed that the simpler the voting process, the more likely it is that people will vote. One has to wonder why Mr. Tucker wants to disenfranchise some of Union County’s potential voters.
