Porter Ridge student arrested
Deputies arrested and charged a Porter Ridge High student with felony breaking and entering Sunday, Dec. 12. The incident happened at the 8000 block of Idlewild Road, where the 60-yr-old resident returned to find his front door forced open. Nothing was taken from the building and no damage was done to the property. 17-year-old Indian Trail resident Johnny Maurice Gaither was arrested and charged with the crime.
Teacher resigns after charges of sex with student
A teacher at Monroe’s Parkwood High has resigned after being arrested Tuesday, Dec. 14. Mellisa Bitz was charged with a sexual act by a custodian, accused of having sex with an 18-year-old student in her Spanish class. Reports from the Union County Sheriff’s Office say the 27-year-old, in her first year at the school, was arrested at her Indian Trail home Tuesday night. She filed her resignation on Wednesday.
Break-in at local business
Over $7000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a Unionville business Monday, Dec. 13. The incident happened at V1 Concrete, located at the 1700 block of Clontz Long Road. Thieves broke glass to get inside the building, where they stole several concrete plate tamps, a chainsaw, an air compressor, a hammer drill, a soft cut saw, two quick saws and an electric concrete breaker. The estimated total of the theft was placed at $7650.
Waxhaw man arrested for sexual act in bookstore
Daniel Vallecillo, a 28-year-old Waxhaw native, was arrested Monday, Dec. 13, for masturbating in the Borders bookstore, 7836 Rea Road, in front of a 34-year-old woman, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report. The incident happened around 8 p.m. Vallecillo is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $7,500 secured bond, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff¹s Office jail log.
Unlocked door leads to theft
Thieves targeted a Wesley Chapel resident Saturday, Dec. 11, after he left multiple items inside his unlocked vehicle. Taken in the theft was a $600 coat and a $220 briefcase. No damage was done to the vehicle and nothing else was stolen. The incident took place at the 400 block of Hunters Pointe Drive.
