The article you wrote about Waxhaw Commissioner Kirkpatrick attempting to sneak her brother in as the lead designer for Waxhaw Town Hall was interesting to say the least. After your article, I decided to do a little investigating myself, reading old meeting minutes, watching the DVD of the last commissioner meeting, reading public record e-mails from Commissioner Kirkpatrick and Mayor Gardner. It takes a lot to shock me, but I have to admit, this did it. Back in early 2010, Mayor Gardner specifically asked Commissioner Kirkpatrick over e-mail if she could talk to Commissioner Kirkpatrick’s “friend” about the library so that she could push her agenda for the library. This “friend” was the same firm that you wrote about in your article, the same one Commissioner Kirkpatrick’s brother is listed as the lead interior designer for in the request for proposal that was given to the town. Unbelievable that both Commissioner Kirkpatrick and Mayor Gardner would try to sneak this in without anyone realizing what they were doing. Kudos to Commissioner Lane and Commissioner Blythe for taking a stand against it! This behavior by both Commissioner Kirkpatrick and Mayor Gardner is disgusting. It is most definitely unethical and needs to be treated as such. I am at a loss as to why both of these elected officials have not been stripped of their elected titles and why they both still hold office. As far as I’m concerned and many of my friends, we would like to see both of these women taken out of office and out of their elected positions. I would like to see honesty and openness from our elected officials, not games, lies and unethical behavior.
